"Study for a Soap" Exhibition
September 2019 -With the support of Banque BEMO and under the high patronage of H.E.Mr. Bruno Foucher, French Ambassador to Lebanon, an exhibition entitled “Study for a Soap” by the French artist Emmanuel Tussore was held at Abroyan Factory on the occasion of the Beirut Art Fair 2019.
Tussore recreated his “City” installation, in which he used soap from Aleppo in Syria and Al Koura in Lebanon, to recreate the remnants of a shattered city, a powerful statement in an impressive installation. Tussore used the fragile and malleable traditional soaps as a medium in this installation. In his hands, Aleppo soap, the oldest soap in the world, shifts from the refined gesture of the civilized man to become the symbol of a destructive and brutal force. His ruins suggest the characters of a mysterious alphabet telling of absence, loss, exile, thus questioning the fundamental notions of humanism.
